As of today, Lemond remains the only American to win the Tour de France offically.
We all know that the top riders doped between 1999-2005 and I will be one that says
Lance was legitimate for his seven Tours

It was a very short time trial. Only about 24K. That’s why few people that day thought Lemond had much of a chance to make up a 50 second deficit to win the tour.

This is cycle racing’s 1966 world cup, Geoff Hirst, they think its all over moment. LeMond, greatest American cyclist ever.

Greg NEVER doped! He is not even suspected of even doping

i like Greg Lemond a lot but this can’t help but make me suspicious of him

Sadly, Armstrong lost his seven titles but since most top riders were also doping at that time, you cannot fault Armstrong. Lemond, on the other hand, never doped and won his three Tour de France’s legitimately!

Lance was busy learning doping techniques.

FROG? who is arrogant here I wonder, the Frogs as you call them taught you how to eat with a fork and a knife and you still screwed up the beef

This was the best. Fignon ,now deceased, lost the race but lost nothing in the hearts of millions. Greg introduced America to the Tour de France. I was in Paris on the final day of the 1981 tour and had no idea what was going on. I haven’t missed a moment of coverage since Greg and Bernard Hinault raced. The Tour is the greatest event in sports.

This is the most epic TDF TT ever… but what is with the over-dramatic music?

How ahead of time was Lemond? This is 1989 and his helmet looks almost identical to the helmet Bradley Wiggins wore in this years Paris – Nice.

Forgive me for being ignorant …but how long in distance is this time trail

I think Fignon just wanted to show that he could beat LeMond without the use of the Scott bars or the Giro helmet, it was almost arrogant on Fignon’s part…I remember seeing this on tele back in 89, and thinkin “what an arrogant FROG that Fignon was: letting his ponytail wag like a streamer!!” Well, Fignon was still a great rider, can’t take that away from him… but being British I supported LeMond, and wasn’t particularly fond of the French…so long live Greg LeMond, and RIP Laurent Fignon

well back then they were so new and i can see why fignon would not have wanted to use them so close to the final tt and crash or something happend…when you look at alot of rider set ups in the early days of tt they were all wrong and thier postion on the bike was horrible..it took a few years..flor a long time riders had them facing up ward but eventually by 93 94 they were flat and alot of work had been done to be not only comfy but efficent too..
