Kind of like the old “hamstring pull” at 80meters of the 100meter sprint.

What a team of real groundbreakers paving the way for all the non europeans SKY included also ANC Halfords in 87.Best of luck to Davis Phinney what a gent!Everyone loves an underdog and to get the yellow jersey and lose it in the team time trial was heartbreaking everything that could go wrong did!Come 87 they had theTTT down better. Also what an iconic team strip still looks good now!!

anyone familiar with pro cycling knows what “stomach virus” means. it’s the old “bad fish” cover.

If Charmichael was only a paying member of CTS, he might not have sucked so bad. He didn’t pay his coach enough was his problem.

Great to see things connected to Eric Heiden. Almost scarry: so very succesful as a skater, cyclist, student and doctor. He is really a superman!

True, riders like Lance, Levi, Christian, etc. would have never gotten anywhere had it not been for these guys paving the way.

Eric Heiden is now an orthopedic surgeon, and helped promote the Tour of California. Andy Hampsten lives in Italy and leads bike tours (and is still very fit!), Alex Stieda does similar for Canada. Chris Carmichal is Lance’s coach. Bob Roll works for Versus TV, Davis Phinney has Parkinson’s disease, but his son raced in the Beijing Olympics on the track.

I went to the Tour in 2006 and watch at the top of the stage to Alpe d’Huez in the Alps. It is a great experience to see a stage in the mountains. My daughters told me it was the best day ever, and my wife has already said we have to go back and do it again.

If you ever get the chance, do it. Or do like me and make the chance happen.

I really like how the fans push the stragglers on mountain stages. Sure, it must bruise their egos a little, but it suggests a real intimacy between the cyclists and their public.

you make it sound like the french losing streak somehow is a result of americans being there. don’t pat yourself on the back. french cycling has run into real problems and they’d be losing to the spanish and the italians right now even if greg lemond had never made it over to europe.

none of thses songs were on any of the early John Tesh cds. Including his Tour De france selections. Especially the music bed of Davis Phinney & Heiden’s crash. If anyone can identify it i’d like to know

That’s right, I just checked. Lemond won in 86,89 and again in 1990. Greg went on to win the professional wold championships road race in 1989 also, a month after his 2nd TdF win.
Sports Illustrated named him one of the 40 most influential people in sports over the past 40 years; he is a two-time ABC Wide World of Sports Athlete of the Year; he received the prestigious Pernod Trophy awarded to the best cyclist in the World, and is a member of the Cycling Hall of Fame.
